SSRS 2015 Q&A Thread

With Pre-Season coming up soon, this will be the perfect time to start up a Q&A Thread.  Feel free to post any questions, comments, or concerns you have about this season here and we will be sure to answer them.

Please be sure to read through and check before you ask a question, as it may be answered before you!  If I notice some questions being asked a lot, I will add it to this post, along with its answer.

Ask away!

Q: Are you guys shooting for having all the trucks on the list ready or will it be only if someone signs up with it?

A: The truck list is of any truck that was on display or ran between all of 2014 and up to and including the World Finals this year.  Although there are 204 trucks on the list, many of them haven't been made.  Which means that it is up to anyone who wants to run an unmade truck to make it.  Also, trucks like Grave Digger must be ran with versions between 2014 and first quarter 2015 (ie Digger 7 will not be allowed to run in the Regular Season).  If a truck is available for sign-ups, but hasn't been updated to 2014-2015 first quarter, then you may still run its original version, but it is highly encouraged to get it updated if possible.

Q: So with it being realistic, if someone gets digger, max-d or another big name FELD truck, do we get a 20 second RII delay to try and save the truck even if we are on our sides?

Short A: No.

Long A: After this quarter of Monster Jam I think it would be safe to say the definition of "realism" has changed, while it is still a vague definition that is, and will probably be, always up for debate.  Until trucks can fully respond, break, and move like their real life counterparts, determining "realism" will always be a source of argument.  My main opinion on flopping on your roof to save the truck is that the ways these trucks handle make it so much easier to flip back over compared to real trucks.  How many trucks have actually saved themselves from being on their side?  How many times could you flip your truck back over in 2 minutes?  It just wouldn't be "realistic."  Additionally, the argument that it happened in real life (typically only once) and therefore should be allowed always is ridiculous in my opinion.  How many times since has Tom done "The Move" since Baltimore that year?  How many different times can you practice, refine, and complete that move each and every week?  Again, it's not "realistic."

As far as RII's and "realism" go for this year, we will be stopping trucks shortly after they hit with the cage.  You will most likely be able to roll over and come back on all fours and keep going, depending on the situation, same goes for some other weird hits and stuff.  You will definitely have some opportunity to save the truck, but it won't be any longer than a few seconds after you touch ground with the cage.  MOST IMPORTANTLY, EVERYTHING IS SITUATIONAL, I CANNOT PREDICT EVERY LANDING AND TELL YOU WHAT WILL GET YOU RII'D.

Easiest way to avoid issues with this is to ask "Is what I'm going to do stupid?"  If yes, don't do it.

Am I able to join, although the season is about to start?

Yes, sign-ups will be posted and opened following the Pre-Season events, just make sure you know what rank you fall under, which can be found in the News and Information thread, your corresponding truck to your rank, and have an AIM account (version 7.5.11.9).

When the thread opens to all ranks, post your sign-up and you will be allowed to race in the series.

Anyhow..... So how do you guys have it planned so there will be no interference with SMRA?

Well, currently, SMRA runs Fridays at 7:25 est, and Saturdays at 6:30 est.  I have races planned to run on both of these days throughout the season.  My planned start time was going to be 7:30 est, but being as Fridays would have this starting at the same time as SMRA, I will probably adjust the times, either an hour earlier or later.

Right now, SMRA has a larger group with more "competitive" drivers running Fridays and a smaller group of many newer drivers running Saturdays, so my main focus would be to have more Saturday events than on Fridays, to help keep everyone from being flustered with events on Fridays.

There is also the question of IMTRS, which is running at 5:30 est on Saturdays.  Luckily, all three leagues will be staggered by an hour between each start, IMTRS at 5:30, SMRA at 6:30, and then SSRS at 7:30, which will probably get most of racing done before each event starts.

What is the sign-up format?

It will probably earn you 3 points for freestyle, and if it gets dumb enough I can and will consider penalties and suspensions.  So yeah, you can, just at your own risk.
