Blender won't recognize/discover that Python is installed?

Greeny

Question

I have done everything that I can here and I can't figure it out. I have installed Python to the best of my knowledge, but Blender (v2.49b) will not recognize that Python (v2.6) is installed. Here is what I see:

What is the the proper way to install Python?

Yes that is where it is located on my computer. It is installed/situated properly to the best of my knowledge.

Just can't seem to get Blender to realize that it is, indeed, there. I have re-installed, made certain that I have the proper version of Python to match Blender 2.49b, and gone through the read-me for Python.

Any chance I would have to locate the Python directory manually for Blender?
