  1. If I may, here's my two cents -- a lot of these people are young, probably with little to no online forum experience, and even though common sense should prevent the sort of poor behavior we've been seeing, unfortunately it doesn't because they simply do not know any better. No one is born ignorant -- it's all in what you are taught, or maybe more importantly, what you are not taught that causes ignorance. I remember joining the MTM2 community when I was about 15 and doing some pretty cringe-worthy things because I simply did not know any better, but I eventually learned what good behavior is and how to properly interact with people. I've noticed a lot of forums now require passing a short quiz which I assume also cuts down on immature BS -- this might be something to consider. I also think if there was a warning system and eventual bans (temporary and permanent) given out for begging, name calling, trolling, even repeatedly reposting images in quotes, etc it might clean this place up if strictly enforced. It's possible to still have a fun forum with tighter rules. As is, it's kind of a free-for-all, and as anyone has probably noticed in the real world (depending on where you live), this doesn't work so well. This should be a place that provides a creative outlet for people, and sharing is an important part of the process because it allows for feedback and constructive criticism which improves skills (and content for all of us to enjoy). Who knows, some of the broad work that people are doing here could eventually lead to them becoming future automobile/industrial designers, racing engineers, programmers etc -- sky's the limit. Edit: I also think more tutorials might inspire new members to start creating content rather than begging. For me, jumping into RoR blindly was a very daunting task, I had a difficult time finding decent tutorials and it took me a long time to figure out certain things on my own, which I assume most people do not have the patience to do.
  2. @Gabe2304 Thanks. I just saw your review. When I started this project I analyzed a lot of trucks from other builders and I noticed it was common to find a ton of extra unnecessary verts and textures. So I spent a lot of time making sure there were no unnecessary verts or textures, which was not too difficult considering everything was made from scratch. The vert count for all three trucks combined is probably less than one modern replica truck typically found here (my trucks are not as detailed though).
  3. I was just reading about how someone recently acquired the source code for MTM2 from a former member of Terminal Reality and is updating the game. Apparently TR owns/owned the source code (they are no longer in business), while Microsoft own the naming rights. So who knows, maybe MTD was made from the MTM source code after all.
  4. A rather strange situation, not sure what to make of it. I remember this game was originally developed for the PC. The company always seemed questionable to me as they kept delaying the release for the PC version, and only ended up releasing mobile versions (until the recent PC version on Steam which was apparently unplayable). I had a very early beta that seemed a lot like a revamped MTM2, or (what would have been) MTM3. I've always wondered if it was based on the MTM2/3 engine and the legality of it if so. (Back in 1999/2000, I was told by someone close to BIGFOOT that a number of teams had already signed contracts for MTM3, which if true then it must have been in development and someone must have beta copies somewhere. I don't remember why it was never finished.) I did play MTD on an Android tablet recently and there were a ton of ads -- a very frustrating experience. I don't recall the iOS version being quite so bad a few years ago.
  5. Very clean & accurate work. During MTM2's heyday, this was a much desired replica that a few of us built; it's nice to revisit it with such great detail and better physics. The crushable cars make driving much more enjoyable as well.
  6. Awesome! I think the light blue on Bear Foot could use some adjusting, though. Less saturation, slightly more green.
  7. I was referring to the actual mesh model rather than the .truck file settings. The issue with most of the tires I've seen is they have an inside diameter that is smaller than the outside diameter of the wheels (image below), which is why the tires poke through in-game. Inserting the wheel into the tire in Blender (as a temp guide), and sizing the inside tire diameter to be larger than the wheel generally fixes this.
  8. To be honest, the tire/rim issue is avoidable by changing the inside diameter of the tire. But the truck looks amazing regardless.
  9. I believe that is the first GD that ran in TNT, no?
  10. +1. The only way to end up with a nicely baked chassis (or any similar part involving tubing) is to make sure none of the joints protrude each other to avoid black lines, which would take a TON of time to do. You could also manually edit the lines out in PS, but that also takes a ton of time. And even then, it hardly looks any different than a nice, plain spec job.
  11. I told myself I wasn't going to allow 3D bodies in the POWERTRAX series, but I've always had a soft spot for... SNAKE BITE! Introducing electric Snake Bite! I tried various color schemes, but I kept going back to the classic red (but will probably also make a new light blue/green version). I tried using Wambo's front clip, but it didn't look right with the angular F-150 body, so I instead used it as a guide to make a new one from scratch. I airbrushed the snake skin and logo so it looks like it was hand painted with lots of detail, like the original red version. I made triangular tubing for the rollbar and bumpers (which are raw carbon fiber), which sort of resembles the triangular body of a tree python. I also created a new logo, which I think is more fitting with the angular body and scales than the original logo. I still have a few odds and ends to work out, but for the most part it's finished. I'm quite happy with it.
  12. Yes it did, but not quite the same way: (Oh how sweet it still is to see Goldberg being defeated by BIGFOOT... haha)
  13. The tracks are only compatible with versions .37-39.7 (for now).
  14. Thanks all, I'm glad everyone is enjoying it! Feel free to post your lap times!
  15. Thanks! Enjoy! Also, the main description has been updated with compatibility info and instructions.
  16. Unzip the ZIP files from the main one (POWERTRAX Beta 0001 - 2016-05-12.zip), but I would advise to keep them in the zips. If you do decide to extract them to a folder, DO NOT put everything in one folder as certain files might be overwritten! Place them where you would your normal trucks and tracks, or make a POWERTRAX folder. It's up to you.
  17. Sorry, I forgot to add this info! For now, the tracks are compatible with versions .37-39.X, although the trucks will work on .45 as well. In the future, the entire series will work with .37 and up.
  18. Just uploaded a beta sample/preview of the POWERTRAX series, pending approval. ?

This is a truck/track beta preview of the POWERTRAX electric monster truck series. It includes two dirt tracks and three trucks with dirt/mud tires -- one from each brand. The final version will have at least 13 trucks (three versions of each) and 12 tracks. For now, the tracks are compatible with versions 0.37-0.39.7, although the trucks are compatible with newer versions as well. In the future, the entire series will work with 0.37 and up. I consider these to be Stage 3.5 racing trucks (with an all-new type of futuristic MT, Stage 4, on the drawing board). The handling and speed of these trucks are not entirely realistic by today's electric monster (BIGFOOT 20, which is under-powered and heavy), but rather are balanced between what the future could hold if monster trucks had Formula 1/WEC team budgets to explore new technologies and materials, and simply being fun and challenging to drive from a gaming perspective. They are (purposely) difficult to drive, and although each brand is somewhat different in terms of handling characteristics, it is entirely possible for each to achieve near-identical results using any of them. Results will depend on your driving style. Remember, sometimes slower is faster. The two tracks included are two of the longest and most difficult tracks of the series. Round 06 has dirt, mud and asphalt, with Round 08 being all dirt. The start/finish posts have "lights" on the top -- green is for start while red is for finish (see photos below). As for rules of racing (that I like to use), the lines and posts are there for a reason. At least two tires must remain within the racing lines at all times, providing the truck doesn't benefit in lap time, e.g. two tires over lines to cut a corner is not acceptable, while two tires leaving an outside line or coming off a jump is. All four tires must hit the jumps. Some notes: Because this series was not originally intended to be released, each track only has a single lane for single truck runs. There are no motor sounds as of yet. All of the textures were made to be used in Caelum sky mode, and although Sandstorm will work, it might not look pleasing to the eye. Each brand (and truck) have different handling characteristics, these three trucks best represent each brand. Instructions for use: Extract the ZIPs from the main one (POWERTRAX Beta 0001 - 2016-05-12.zip). I advise keeping them in the ZIPs. If you decide to extract them to a folder, DO NOT put everything in one folder as certain files might be overwritten! Place them where you would put your normal trucks and tracks, or make a POWERTRAX folder. It's up to you. Go racing! I would love to hear everyone's thoughts. Personally, I think these are a blast to race, and this is only the beginning! -HW
