  1. I did some digging, and came up empty. I have a feeling I may have been looking in the wrong spots as I am sure this has been covered, but is there a tutorial on how to build a custom truck using existing parts?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I just needed to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks!

  2. Ok, so I decided to experiment with some different options in the meantime. I succeeded! I ended up using the Doomsday truck and swapping the body and spending a little while placing the body in just the right spot. Then swapped the paint, wheels, and tires and Im pretty happy with the outcome. Still curious as to what was causing my error earlier, but Im pretty happy I at least made some progress!

  3. Ok, so here where I am at. I ended up getting the file imported into Blender. After some messing around with it, I got it where I would like it to be. Here is what I did:

I moved the .mesh file temporarily to my desktop to make it easier for now. In this case, it was WestWindPEI.mesh. I then used the XML converter so there was now the .mesh and the XML .mesh.

I then imported the WestWindPEI.mesh into blender and made the changes.

So now I am lost on where to go. I thought I would have to export it, but whenever I follow the tutorials on here, this is what I get:

Youll notice at the bottom I get an "Exception caught..." error, and the resulting files are empty.

Am I doing something completely wrong here?

  4. I would like to point out that simply painting over an already exported truck with an already exported paint will overwrite the original truck, as you possibly know. You will need to clone the truck, or start from scratch in Blender. As for your current skill level, try to find a truck that has the F150 body but without the cap. Copying over the paint is in no way the correct way to make a truck, but it will be a start for you, until you can understand Blender a bit more. I'm sure one of us would be happy to try to explain to you the very basics.

I would really appreciate that. Yeah, I created a new .truck file for this one so I could still have the other truck in the game as well. I installed blender, but its all new to me, and so far most of the tutorials I have found on how to import .mesh files into blender haven't worked out for me yet. There may be something much simpler and I may just be doing it the hardest way possible. haha

The nice thing is that I work with CAD software all day at work, so as far as 3D space is concerned I have a very good grasp on that, and as Im sure as is with most software, I just need to learn the interface of Blender and hopefully the pieces will start falling into place.

  5. Damn, I was hoping it would be easier than that. haha. If you don't mind, would you have a link to a tutorial on how to do that? I have been trying to get the .mesh file into Blender for a little while now and have not been successful yet.

  6. So I have been working on modding a couple different trucks to try to learn this stuff and get better at it. I have been working on a truck based on the Westwind truck and so far its coming along ok. This is my first time painting and modding the files, so I feel like Im sorta getting the hang of it.

Basically I am curious if there is a way to remove the shell to make this into just a truck. Or is it baked into the body? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, but Im trying to get better at this. Thanks in advance for the help!

  7. Just out of curiosity, would this be the same process for repainting the body? I found this thread because I wanted to paint some rims, so this definitely got me the answer, but I was just wondering if this would be the same process for the body or not.

  8. The TRUCK file, open it with notepad, hit CTRL+F and type in meshwheels. now under meshwheels there should be a bunch of numbers and text almost exactly simular to the one i just posted above. copy and paste what i posted over the one already in the file. Now to change the tires, hit CTRL+F again and type in flexbodies, under it there should be this

    67,73,154, 0.5, 0, 0, 0, 180, 0, GoodYearsNewSG.mesh

    forset 67, 73, 131-154

    42,48,182, 0.5, 0, 0, 0, 180, 0, GoodYearsNewSG.mesh

    forset 42, 48, 179-202

    62,72,159, 0.5, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, GoodYearsNewSG.mesh

    forset 62, 72, 155-178

    37,47,205, 0.5, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, GoodYearsNewSG.mesh

    forset 37, 47, 203-226

replace the goodyearsnewsg.mesh with sir_2013.mesh (make sure you have rockcrwlrs v4.5 tires downloaded and extracted in the smv4 pack) link: http://sim-monsters.com/index.php?/files/file/1371-v45-tires/

You, sir, are incredible! This worked perfect!

So for future reference, if I get a error 6 or something where the error message is missing a file, this is the way I go about fixing it?

Also, if I wanted the ukraine tires on there, I would just change that .mesh text?

Thanks so much for your help!

Also, so I really like the Ukraine tires, so now that I can put them on any of the trucks I want, Im assuming I need to change the wheels too? I noticed there is a gap in the beadlock and the tire when I change the tires.

Nevermind, I found my own answer. haha. I knew the updated Grinder truck I have has the wheels and tires that I wanted, so I just replaced the trucks I wanted to change with those files and Im in business.

Thanks so much for helping me out with this. I am so pumped! haha

  9.

I, too, had the same problems with Zombie, go into the Zombie file and find meshwheels and replace whatever is under it with this:

    0.84, 0.25, 0.25, 12, 73, 67, 9999, 1, 1, 24, 272.700000, 150000.000000, 1100.000000, r,GraveDiggerRim.mesh GravediggerBand
    0.84, 0.25, 0.25, 12, 62, 72, 9999, 1, 1, 6, 272.700000, 150000.000000, 1100.000000, l,GraveDiggerRim.mesh GravediggerBand

    set_node_defaults -1, 1.8, -1, -1
    0.84, 0.25, 0.25, 12, 48, 42, 9999, 1, 1, 29, 272.700000, 150000.000000, 1100.000000, r, GraveDiggerRim.mesh GravediggerBand
    0.84, 0.25, 0.25, 12, 37, 47, 9999, 1, 1, 10, 272.700000, 150000.000000, 1100.000000, l, GraveDiggerRim.mesh GravediggerBand

and then change the tires to anything other than what is on the truck. Worked for me.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, but can you explain exactly how to do this? There are only 14 files in the zombie file I downloaded, and I dont see the wheels anywhere in there. Also, how do I change the tires?

  10. I would suggest re-deleting everything, and making sure that you 100% know that you deleted it all. Then download RoR again, and put V4 in the vehicles folder. I it messes up when you mod it, then just make folders for the add-on trucks and extract them to their. But, I will say that I don't recommend that if you're going to have A LOT of add-on's because that's what I did/do and I have to relocate a lot of files...

Sorry if it didn't work, I was going to delete the post, but I figured it couldn't hurt anything, so why not give it a try?

I still put the actual zip file in the vehicles folder right? Or do I need to extract the zip file to the vehicles folder? In the past, I could have sworn I just dropped the zip file in there...

Alright well Im making some progress. I unzipped the v4 pack into the vehicles folder and its working every time now.

Now the issue I run into is when I add some trucks, the game crashes. I added the zombie truck files and it crashed, and I tried the mopar magic truck and it crashed. I am unzipping the contents of the downloaded truck files into the v4 folder in the vehicles folder. Ill try like you said and creating their own truck folder then report back.

Alright, looks like doing that is the solution. I created a folder for mopar magic and put all the files from the .zip in there and it worked great!

Looks like it may only work with certain trucks. Doing that same method with the zombie truck still crashes the game.

Sorry for all the posts, just trying to work through it and explain what Im doing so if Im doing something wrong you guys can correct me.

  11. It needs to be in the vehicle folder, not packs.

I felt like a complete idiot for a second. haha. Although when I tried that, it didn't work either.

And I still think I may have done something wrong since the game crashes when I try to play from rorconfig.

  12. So for the last 2 days I have been messing around with this, and scouring this site for answers. Hopefully its a simple issue Im having.

For some reason, .37 and all my downloads decided they wanted to stop working. I decided after hours of frustration to start from scratch. I deleted and uninstalled everything. I re-installed .37 with the link from this sire and got the game back on my computer. For some reason, whenever I click save&play from rorconfig, the game immediately crashes. But, if I make any changes, then click save&exit, then just open the game using the ror.exe, the game loads fine. That's the first thing I can't understand.

Next, after the fresh install, I reinstalled the v4 pack into the packs folder. Once I reopen the game, the pack unzipped and everything was fine. Awesome. However, as soon as I add trucks to the v4 zip, then clear cache, no matter what I do, the pack will not reload in the game. I can't click regen cache from rorconfig because it crashes. So what I have been doing is clearing from rorconfig, save&exit, then just opening the game and letting it regen the cache itself. But no matter how many times I do it, once I mod the v4 folder by dragging and dropping the truck files into it, it just won't regen.

Sorry if this has been answered already, I couldnt seem to find a solution. Also, thanks a TON in advance for any and all help. :)

My computer is running Windows 8.1, 16gb of ram, i7 processor, GTX670 graphics card, and the game is installed on my 256gb ssd drive. Not sure if that helps or not, but I have seen threads asking for computer specs to help diagnose the problem.
