I'm surprised something like that didn't happen sooner with how against new members everyone on their forum was ever since I first joined it. You can't really expect to have a long lasting community when they're main goal in almost every thread was to drive away any new members curious about learning and god forbid you tried to ask someone for help. Not saying SM is any better but at least some of us try to welcome to new members and gently push (or sometimes violently shove) them in the right direction for what they're looking for.

I don't think RoR is going to actually die though... not just yet at least.

Yeah, I'm surprised too that it held on for this long, and I agree with you on that.

  2. Another update regarding this entire event: The RoR site now states this quote.

Hello everybody, this is only_a_ptr writing.

Things got settled with TDev, the server is being restored from today's backup, so nothing will get lost.

Stay tuned and be patient, things are going to be back to normal tomorrow. Don't stay up late though, the backup will take a few more hours.

    Cheers.

No one knows if TDev decided to stick with the month-long restore decision or not, but time will tell.

EDIT: Things are going to be okay everyone. The recent GitHub notice from Hotrod55 (the same guy who's been keeping me up to date with the entirety of this roller coaster of a day via skype.)  states this:

We arranged a deal: I got admin access to rigsofrods.com. We have month of time to move our data to a different server. Then, TDev will pass me the rigsofrods.com domain so I can redirect it to our new place.
    From @only-a-ptr on Gitter

Rigs of Rods is not dead, it still lives.

  3. From what I know, it's because the forum's activity has declined to a point where only a few dozen people were left, and the majority of the rest moved on to BeamNG. TDev noticed this and decided to just end the forum's life after all this time. The forum community there used to be massive, but again, as years passed by, the popularity declined as well. It was only a matter of time before this would happen, but I did not expect it to happen today.

  4. As the title states, today, Rigs of Rods's main website/forum (http://www.rigsofrods.com/) went completely offline. This means the multiplayer option in the configurator no longer works for tonight. Luckily, there is a GitHub site that still has the source code and the mp list still intact. If anyone is to play mp, I recommend using this site: https://github.com/RigsOfRods/rigs-of-rods/issues/795

*STATUS EDIT*: After a few hours watching replies, the site is coming back tomorrow and over the course of 31 or so days, all of the information from the original server will be migrated into a new one, so no one should be panicking anymore about this.

  5. Well, Excision's Codename X Remix EP's about to come out (tomorrow), but three out of the five songs have already surfaced on both youtube and soundcloud. From what I've seen so far, there's one that is very intense, and that is none other than xKore's remix of the song.

  6. i started using .38 and it was fun but not all trucks work, which kinda disappoints me because .37 is kinda laggy and .38 is alot easier to work with

They work when you have the right stuff for them, especially when you start off with worldfinals's.38 version of SMV4. (which is right here.) In regards of the add on trucks, you can go with two choices, one being easier than the other: One being to extract each truck zip into the folder, which makes hunting down parts extremely easy, or you can just place the zips into the folder (which is the approach I went with), but it makes hunting down certain parts that could be missing on trucks difficult.

  7. ^ Everything he said right here. Plus content creators don't like being pushed into releasing something quickly, like, do you want to have something that is either half finished or actually complete? So the best thing for you to do is to just be patient and wait like the rest of us here for the creator to finalize the project.

  8. I fixed 2 errors in the ror.log. Hopefully that will fix that. Added an FPS version which double FPS. Have fun with that I guess if you're still on a Pentium 4.

Alright, I'll give it another test and I'll let you know if that was why it was crashing. I appreciate the help. :)

EDIT: It works in multiplayer now with those fixes. Thanks again Matt!

  9. Great looking truck and all, but I noticed that it's very finicky in multiplayer, like it crashes the application. I'm not sure if it does that in .37, but it's apparently doing that in .38.67. It works fine in single player though.

  10. "Should I release the driver as well?"

YES. I am absolutely stunned by your work Helen! Not only have you brought a unique concept into RoR, but you have also made existing classic trucks into the frame as well. Keep up the good work!

  11. Personally, I'd say stay with windows 7 until it goes unsupported. However, if you get a new computer, then windows 10 would be best, unless you have like a fresh copy of 7 or something. That's the case with me if I upgrade from a laptop to a desktop.

  12. It's not blocked in the college I go to however, but then again, it only blocks sites that actually are harmful, like those with viruses, malware, trojans, etc.

EDIT: As for high schools, they can be a bit tough with blocking stuff, but again, they would rather see you using the computers for the class or for research, etc.

  13. Quick question: Did you intend for the shifting to be manual on all settings? At least when I was driving them even on automatic I still had to manually shift into second gear

I tried automatic and they worked just fine for me. Only issue I've had is that they easily lose control in 2nd gear. I do like how the trucks handle with this setting however. Keep it up Mark! :D
