I sure don't like how NBC Sports has been editing the racing down to the semifinals and finals when they showed all of it on the first two episodes. I don't see why they can't split it into two shows so we can see all the action. When the first season aired in 2014, they had two shows for each city.  And I don't want to look like a Feld basher. I've been a Monster Jam fan for over 20 years, and I am amazed at how far the sport has advanced since then. But the TV coverage format should have been left alone. I  love freestyle but I think racing is cool too. Thank goodness the Chicago style racing is no more. I felt it was overdone.

Last year, on FS1, we were able to see racing, the two wheel skills and freestyle in one hour. So why change it just because it's on a different network?

Uh what? They did the exact same thing on FS1 last year. They didn't show anything in full. They showed the semis, and finals for racing, and maybe a race from a round earlier if it had implications on the semis, like someone crashing and not coming back. Then they showed highlights of the two wheel skills, and they showed the full runs of FS for the top finishers and highlights of the rest.

  2. I'm at the show in Spokane, 3 of the 8 trucks are broken so far. We aren't even done with racing yet. Will update if anyone comes back.

Update 1: Tyler Meninga wins racing. Had a nice voice crack in his interview after.

Update 2: Colton Eichelberger was watching the track crew fix the track and shook his head in disappoint, they did a really bad job and left multiple ruts in the surface. Tyler Meninga wins ATVs with a last corner pass on the outside.

Update 3: 2 of the trucks are back, however a 4th, MaxD now has issues. Tyler Meninga wins the 2 wheel skills with a really cool wheelie into stoppie combo. I'll probably upload the video later tonight and put it here.

Update 4: No sweep for Tyler tonight as Tony Ochs in Soldier Fortune wins the donut contest.

Update 5: They just gave away tickets to the World Finals. So now this family needs to find a way to get from Spokane to Orlando.

Update 6: Colton wins Speedsters after Tyler rolled it.

Update 7: There is a dance contest. Every child is flossing. Send help.

Update 8: Tyler Menninga wins freestyle. I will probably upload that tomorrow.

  3. Alright, so I've been trying to figure out what this show was for awhile now. It aired after Monster Jam on TNN. It was a motorsport show and there was a driver named I think Stealth. He wore an all black firesuit, black helmet with a blacked out visor.

  4. I didn't think Ryan's run was that great. Admittedly, it's the only run I've seen so far, so I can't compare it to the others, so it may well have been the best run tonight for all I know. Personally, I though almost all the "Wow" factors came after the clock hit 0. But like I said, I haven't seen the rest of the runs so I'll need to see them before I can form an opinion on if it were win worthy or not. Also I usually set way too high of expectations for freestyle, so that probably has an influence on my opinion too.

I think it's all the fans voting for their favorite. I myself am guilty for that. People will give Max D a 10 when he deserved a 7 and Mohawk a 2 when he deserved a 10.

That's been the problem with the previous forms of judging too.  I've been going to Monster Jam at my local arena since about 2002 back when there were just 3 fan judges, and I've also seen it when they had 5 judges and got rid of the low and the high. I've seen things like Grave Digger get a nearly perfect score after rolling just a little more than 10 seconds into a run, I think everyone that's been to mutliple shows has seen something simlar to this. The only way to stop any kind of bias like this, at least that I can think of would be if Feld brought in some retired drivers and had them go on the various tours as judges.

Well if they wanted to use a big stadium use the University of Michigan Stadium 2nd biggest in the world

It's the second biggest attendance wise. Being the largest in attendance is far different than being the largest in floor space area. A stadium like University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale would have the largest floor space, not Michigan Stadium.

  7. I think the date change is pretty interesting. With the World Finals now being in May it extends the season by at least 1 months, and up to 2 months depending on when they do it in May. With them extending the season to May we could actually see a lot of new stadiums on the tour that they can't really go to in January, February and March due to weather. Looking at current NFL stadiums( I say NFL only because I doubt MLB teams will want Monster Jam coming in during the season and putting dirt down) there's a good chance we could see Monster Jam at the stadiums in Seattle, Kansas City, Charlotte, Washington DC/Landover, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Baltimore, Buffalo, Chicago, and Denver.

Okay... Dennis will be turning 58 next year, you all need to learn aging is a thing and he can't take the hits like he used to. His retirement was gonna be coming soon especially after the Tampa injury so get used to it, let the man enjoy his retirement

A lot of lower level indies cut, only ones that irk me are Wild Thang and Fluffy

Exactly, it was bound to happen. To put things into perspective, I'd guess Dennis has been driving since the majority of the users on this site were born. He's competed in Monster Trucks since 1986, that's 31 years of hard hits, and as you get older the hits only get harder.

  9.

Youtube link for anyone who needs it.

News from the stream (Let me know if I forgot anything)

Partnering with Netflix a truck from the past will make it's return for 3 events.

As we know, the World Finals is back to 2 days, March 23 and 24.

A new truck from the guys from the show "Diesel Brothers" that is diesel powered will debut in 2018, sounds like it is called the Brodozer.

Brianna Mahon will be driving a truck called "Whiplash"

An early access pass for pit parties on Saturday's are now available for Stadium shows

All tour champions get an automatic bid in the World Finals

Racing includes all 14 trucks in stadiums, fastest two go to the second round automatically, and new event called the "Two Wheel Challenge"

Max of 42 points for stadium shows, winners get 14 points for each event, 13 for 2nd 12 for 3rd etc.

Judges Zone will be used everywhere

Arena course layout looks the same.

Cars are included in the Chicago style course

    Marc McDonald is driving Cleatus

Dennis Anderson is officially retired from competition

Colt Stephens is driving the Brodozer

A service/website called Monsterjam.TV was teased with footage from old and newer events, If I had to guess this is a service similar to the WWENetwork with most, if not all old monster jam shows and what not available

  10. I can see why Lee O'Donnell won. It is the first time ever a perfect front flip was landed. It may be one of the only times we see it. As long as stadiums are setup for Jersey, Chicago and So Cal(If they do that style anymore) we won't be seeing front flips as often as wee see back flips. The only place, based on the way they setup the tracks that the front flip is possible will probably be in Las Vegas, even then, the track gets at least slight changes year after year, so the way they set it up in the future could negate any front flip attempt. It just happened that this year, it was set up perfectly for it to happen.

And let's be real, in Monster Jam it's almost always been about having the biggest "Wow factor" when it comes to freestyle. When you put judging into all the fans hands most of them don't really care about momentum, and all the judging criteria. Most people are going to judge by the one crazy move they saw, not the whole run.

The Raiders are expected to play in Oakland for at least 2 more years and the stadium should be done by 2020.

Yeah, it will be open in time for the 2020 NFL season, which would start in September 2020, so the first World Finals would be 2021. Atlanta's new stadium broke ground in May of 2014, and it will open in August of this year, so that would be 3 years from ground breaking to opening. They have yet to break ground in Las Vegas, and assuming it takes the same amount of time, it own;t be open in time for the 2020 World Finals.

I'm not totally convinced UNLV would want to sell a completely paid off stadium that is still good for hosting tons of events in one of the busiest cities in the world... but even if they did, It's not like it would be a bad idea for FELD to buy it. I'm not saying they would or should, but they could easily hire on a few(dozen) more people and run the stadium year round themselves hosting concerts or whatever just as an extra means of income. I'm not so sure it would happen, but there are many worse things they could do with the money.

Off the top of my head Sam Boyd Stadium hosts 5 events every year, 3 of them being the World Finals, Supercross finals and the Monster Energy Cup, all these from Feld. I could easily see once the new stadium is built them wanting to move at least the Supercross finals in the new stadium.

The other two are the USA Rugby Sevens and the Las Vegas Bowl. I'd be willing to bet that the Las Vegas Bowl will move to the new stadium. Not sure what Rugby Sevens would do, as I'm not too familiar with it.

So at some point, if you're from UNLV and it's only the WF, and Rugby there, is it even worth keeping the building and maintainung it?

The thing is, the new stadium won't be done until the 2021 World Finals. In those 4 years a lot of things regarding that situation could and will change.

So with the recent news of the Oakland Raiders soon moving to Las Vegas in the coming years, there seems to be heavy speculation that the UNLV Rebels will also be moving into the new stadium that is being built.  The new stadium isn't being built on top of Sam Boyd, but that does raise the question, what happens to the stadium if the Rebels leave?  Does the World Finals move out to somewhere else?  Orlando is no longer an option to host the similar racing style with recent renovations.  Will FELD buy a stadium just to maintain the legacy of the World Finals, or is this the beginning of a new World Finals for Monster Jam?

    http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/oakland-raiders-may-share-their-stunning-new-las-vegas-stadium-with-unlv/

Well, if UNLV moves into Raider stadium, I'd imagine the university would want to get Dam Boyd Stadium off their books since they'd have no use for it and would look to sell the land. If that's the case Feld could look at buying the land if they want to keep the Supercross finals and MJ World Finals there. However, I'm not sure if Feld would want to undertake the task of maintaining a stadium just so they could have two events there.

There's also the fact that the land may be valuable to developers, and if the land is considered valuable that could drive the price up and maybe make it not worth buying it.

If they don't I could easily see the World Finals vecoming something like WrestleMania, or the Super Bowl where they host it in different cities each year.

Why has Monster Mutt never had a dynamic, exciting driver for a long period of time? Trucks like Monster Energy or Monster Mutt Dalmatian have always had just one or two exciting or strong drivers for years (Candice was a bit slow at first but improved pretty quickly). Everytime they get a stronger driver in Monster Mutt, they're out in two years, like Ryan Anderson (given SUD was waiting), Wine, O'Donnell, Creech, Kenny, and Bryan Winston. They've had decent drivers for a while like Tarlton but never just one or two exciting, dynamic drivers for a while. You'd think they'd put their best drivers in one of the most popular trucks. I know this post is a bit unrelated but something I've been wondering for a while.

Great Clips Mohawk Warrior, VP Racing Fuels Mad Scientist, FS1 Cleatus, Gas Monkey Garage, Lucas Oil Crusader, Metal Mulisha, and Hot Wheels are all either corporate sponsorship, or brands that have agreed to license their brand for use on a Monster Jam truck. As long as these trucks have a corporate sponsor they will have at least one main driver that the brands can use for promotional purposes. Look at the past for example, when Ford sponsored Blue Thunder, it had one main driver for the full season, like Tony Farrell, Norm Miller, Lyle Hanrooster and eventually Linsey Weenk, they all drove it for a full season including the World Finals instead of having someone like a Digger driver just fill the seat at a World Finals

Corporate sponsorship is also why Bryce Kenny made it in the WF this year. Most, if not all of the companies with a truck probably have it in their contracts that they go to the World Finals not matter what.
