  1. All, Everyone who intends on competing in the Classic Division needs to download and use this truck pack in order to be eligible for competition. This pack contains all of DiggerFan's leaf sprung trucks INCLUDING Awesome Kong with updated settings to provide a more racier atmosphere. http://www.mediafire.com/download/h17chxegcm6kzs9/PPRLleafers.zip Anyone not using this package is subject to an unfair disadvantage to those who are using the pack so it is mandatory everyone use the above link.
  2. Reposting to clear up signup issues: All signups must contain a complete link to an unaltered Diggerfan Replica Leaf Sprung truck found here: http://sim-monsters.com/index.php?/profile/85-diggerfan/content/&type=downloads_file Any truck that is not a Diggerfan Replica will be disallowed from competition. It is hopeful that after Winter Heat this will encourage others to begin replicating leaf sprung trucks from the 1980's for league use. We are more focused on the aspect of leaf sprung racing then getting the vehicle volume increased for this season. MULTIPLE SIGNUPS FOR THE SAME TRUCK ARE OKAY!
  3. Please read the rules thread. You can have multiple of the same truck running. It is about the racing style not the trucks paint job.
  4. Perfect. I'll have to experiment with it tomorrow and post an update. When we used TS back in the day it was a complete cluster until somebody downloaded and started running a server on their PC. We'd have random people connect because we had no idea how to setup password protection. Entertaining but also annoying.
  5. All, It is with great pleasure to announce the four tracks we will be competing on in January with Winter Heat! It isn't any small fact that HotShoe's Demolition Track Creations were some of the most technical, high speed and downright fun tracks to compete on in MTM2. Because of that we are running exclusively at his venue's for the Winter Heat season. Below is the schedule of tracks we will be competing on! Please note that exact dates have NOT been selected yet. This is due to the fact that I work retail part time and haven't gotten a hold of my schedule just yet to determine what day I will be off starting in January. When the schedule arrives I'll update threads accordingly with the actual date of competition. It will as stated in the initial postings be a Monday or Tuesday night! Classic Division: Stop 1: Please download the LOW LAG Zip file so that our friends with less than perfect PC's may be able to compete with us! http://www.mediafire.com/download/tzj7w5rzf4kl3ki/MankatoSpeedwayRenegadesTNTLOWLAG.zip Stop 2: http://www.mediafire.com/download/n0bmmcns49mxiyd/TMC1980sRedManTNT.zip Modern Division: Stop 1: http://www.mediafire.com/download/lmg4ic6u9nzwvlj/NLS3.zip Stop 2: http://www.mediafire.com/download/gkq0fj84j9wpi2d/SanMarcoArena2ndStop.zip
  6. There's no potential ability for people to randomly connect to the server?
  7. All, Since PPRL is potentially bringing in a lot of new players and older MTM2 veterans I feel it is best to offer a quick refresher for what is required in order to compete with PPRL in January. 1.) 8. Cidra is correct. Only leaf sprung trucks by digger fan are allowed.
  9. The Past Present Racing League can be found on Facebook here: https://m.facebook.com/Past-Present-Racing-League-156573872354/ Soon to come Twitter and Youtube. Feel free to put other social media items here like truck pictures and team releases. That way I can add them to our social media feed.
  10. Sean, you can run whatever is legal in other leagues here. My concern is trucks thst have the ability to reright themselves for the most part. As I get signups I'll be checking into things to get a better understanding on that front. At this point concerning leaf trucks with custom paint I'll have to say no unless Digger fan says otherwise. I don't want to interfere with his work having been edited down on a high basis.
  11. I am currently seeking out experienced, trustworthy, respectable officials to join the PPRL Team. I have three open positions. Two of them are full time the other is as an alternate. You will be reporting to Mark Colineri directly and then to myself. Applications of those interested should be submitted to me via private message.
  12. Winter Heat Signup Format Please copy and paste the following signup form into a new reply in this thread to sign up for Winter Heat 2016. Any alterations to a signup should be noted in the last modified field. Any signup that is missing information, containing a broken truck link or not following the format is not official and will not allow a competitor to compete in any event until corrected. 13. Winter Heat Rules - 2016 By: DaveTheSmasher Version # 1.0 General Overview: The Past Present Racing League's goal is to provide a fast paced, entertaining and competitive environment for all competitors. The following rule set is a guide for league officials and participants to adhere to at all times. Anyone not adhering to the rules set forth are subject to suspension until the next season of racing begins. Event Scheduling Overview: All events will be conducted on Monday or Tuesday nights, subject to availability of league president. In the event that an event can not be scheduled for a Monday or Tuesday evening the schedule will carry over to the next week until all five events are completed. There will be no events conducted without the league president available at any time. Event Time Format: 7:00 PM EST - Event Chat Starts (AIM and Teamspeak) 7:30 PM EST - Qualifications Open 8:30 PM EST - Qualifications Close 8:45 PM EST - Racing Begins 9:30 PM EST - Freestyle Begins 11:00 PM EST - Event Ends League Officials: There will be a maximum of four league officials inside of the racing server at all times during the event. The officials will consist of the league president and three officials of the presidents choosing. These officials have the ability to point out penalties and inform the league president to hand out official rulings. No official is permitted to have the final say in any manner. Officials will be upheld to a strong professional set of standards. If found to be out of compliance the official will be terminated from the position. Modern Division Rules: Competitor Vehicles: All signups must contain a direct link to a complete, finished and working truck. Any truck that is unable to be loaded in game will be banned from competition until the problem area is resolved on the competitors behalf. Any body style, chassis type or era may compete in the Modern Division. No illegal alterations may be performed to a truck. If it does not fly in other leagues, it will not fly here. Any vehicle deemed to be illegal will be subject to inspection by a league official trained in truck design. If deemed illegal post event the competitor is banned for the remainder of the season. Alterations to vehicles after the first event are highly discourage, the extra processing time required by the league president and the staff is not time constructive. Simple skin changes should be reserved to the final event. Racing Rules: Racing will be conducted prior to freestyle for all modern day events. Qualifications will consist of two passes in each lane by a competitor. The fastest time will be used to place a competitor onto the racing bracket. If a tie breaker is required the second pass time will be used to determine who places where. Racing Bracket is seeded based on the top 12 fastest trucks in qualifications, see the below image for a representation of how the brackets will work: All racing rounds are conducted without a stop watch timer. All finishes are heads up and will not be time recorded. Fast loser position is reserved on either side of the bracket for the fastest truck in qualifying that loses in the first round. In the event of a tie, the race will be reran if the officials can not determine a winner. The match up then becomes a best two out of three race to determine who advances. Competitors with technical ailments such as poor connection, sudden crashes of the software or other computer related issues may be subject to having their match up dropped to the bottom of the bracket but only on a case by case basis. This means that repeat offenders will not be given the same leeway after several occurrences of a "delay of game". There is a 3 minute waiting period enacted as soon as the first competitor pulls to the starting line. After the 3 minute period the competitor unable to connect to the server is disqualified and the next fastest, or loser from that previous match up takes the competitors spot. Each event will have an information page created, and will feature the individual track parameter penalties for course cutting, vehicular contact of a disabling nature and missed ramp violations. In the event of any rollover regardless of severity the competitor becomes disqualified. This is a penalty that can be enforced post finish of the race match up. Competitors are required to come to a complete and full stop to signify the end of a race, before any celebratory maneuvers can be performed. Freestyle Rules: Freestyle is unrealistic. This means that a driver can perform at whatever pace is comfortable and not be deemed inappropriate to what is witnessed in real life. Multiple backflips, massive air etc. are all encouraged! Judges include the three selected officials and league president as the alternate when an official is performing on the track. Each judge scores on a scale of 1 to 15, making a total of 45 points available. Breaking down the spread each judge will score based out 5 possible points for each criteria: Speed, Maneuvers, Saves. The league president will ask each judge to deliver their score based on those criteria. There is no bonus time score, bonus time allowed or maneuvers to be performed once a clock expires. Each maneuver performed after the clock has been completed is a deduction of one point from the final score awarded. This is to keep the event moving along in a timely fashion. Freestyle runs will consist of a 2 minute time limit. The first 30 seconds of the time limit if a un-savable rollover is to occur the driver is given a grace period to continue performing the run. After 30 seconds any un-savable rollover is determined a completion of the performance. Use of the grace period is a deduction of one point off the total score. If a flip save is performed (crab walking onto all four tires after rolling over, endos, unsuccessful back flips etc.) there is a deduction of one point from the total score for each flip save that happens during a run. If the roof touches the ground expect a one point penalty to be added to the run if the truck is re-righted by the driver. Classic Division Rules: All signups must contain a complete link to an unaltered Diggerfan Replica Leaf Sprung truck found here: http://sim-monsters.com/index.php?/profile/85-diggerfan/content/&type=downloads_file Any truck that is not a Diggerfan Replica will be disallowed from competition. It is hopeful that after Winter Heat this will encourage others to begin replicating leaf sprung trucks from the 1980's for league use. We are more focused on the aspect of leaf sprung racing then getting the vehicle volume increased for this season. No illegal alterations may be performed to a truck. If it does not fly in other leagues, it will not fly here. Any vehicle deemed to be illegal will be subject to inspection by a league official trained in truck design. If deemed illegal post event the competitor is banned for the remainder of the season. Hardships with frame rate should be documented on the signup form. In the event that a competitor faces another that is signed up using the same truck the person lowest in points will be asked to switch to a different replica so that the driver will not experience issues in frame rate while in the racing match up. Racing rules will be following the same of the Modern Division. Please see above. Each event will have an information page created, and will feature the individual track parameter penalties for course cutting, vehicular contact of a disabling nature and missed ramp violations. Points Breakdown: Titles up for grabs: Modern Overall, Modern Racing, Modern Freestyle, Classic Racing, PPRL Winter Heat Overall Champion. Racing Points Spread: Win - 50 Points Final Round Appearance - 40 Points Semi Finals Appearance - 30 Points Quarter Finals Appearance - 20 Points First Round Appearance - 10 Points Fastest Qualifier - 5 Points Total Points Available per each racing session: 55 Freestyle Points Spread: Total Score - 0 to 45 Points Maximum Awarded Points Per Event: 100 Points Points of Contact: Any questions about rules, official calls, or how to go about signing up should be directed in this thread. Any discrepancies should be made via private message and not in this thread. Any deliberate negative behavior exhibited in this thread will see a competitors rights to compete with PPRL revoked.
  14. Auz we'd love to see you back man. Kozak is having issues getting another subforum up so I'll get some rules posted in this topic before the weekends over. Looking for input from everyone for using just Digger fans leaf sprung trucks. Is that something everyone is ok with? No need to repaint or anything it is about the style of racing not so much the trucks.
  15. I haven't even made the rounds on Facebook yet... the more the merrier!
  16. PPRL Returns after Five Year Hiatus! Winter Heat is coming in January! I am happy to announce that the decision has been made to bring back the premier racing league that revitalized virtual monster truck racing. The Past Present Racing league was originally founded and ran over eleven years ago and grew in a short time frame to exceptional levels of competitiveness among drivers, while providing a fun relaxed atmosphere to all who competed. PPRL helped elevate many to new heights in MTM2 from becoming better drivers, officials and content makers to the creation of many spin-off leagues hoping to obtain the same levels of success. PPRL also helped spawn the ideology of special events such as Fall Madness, Christmas Mayhem and the Classic Clash that grew from being a large gathering to an entire feature length event spawning multiple days. Without a doubt in many minds PPRL was the best league MTM2 had seen. While this level of success was rather unexpected it also came over the course of nearly half a decade. So with that, and RoR being an entirely different platform this is a ground up reboot on the original series again. What does that mean? Back to basics, an item desperately needed by the RoR community. We will be racing under simple to understand rules with consistency in calls and scoring. The meetings for events will be simple and easy to understand. The content required to compete will be easy to understand. The layout? Easy to understand. That is the main goal of the league. I want to see everyone who signs up leave after each event feeling satisfied and having positive feedback about their experience. There will be an open door policy in effect for anyone wishing to discuss ideas on how to better the league. At this point and time here is a breakdown of what I am exploring for the Winter Heat Series. Feel free to discuss below until a forum discussion area is created. 5 Week Schedule, Featuring Classic Racing and Modern Racing / Freestyle. Starting the first week of January. Looking to compete on either Monday or Tuesday Nights depending on my current work schedule. This will allow many who run larger leagues on the weekend to not be interfered with. Event Chat starting at 7:00PM EST on AIM and TeamSpeak with qualifying session beginning at 7:30PM EST and running until 8:30 PM EST. Racing to follow at 8:45 PM EST and Freestyle to start at 9:30 PM EST. 12 Truck Racing Bracket. Featuring Fast Loser advancing into quarter final round on either side of the bracket. All drivers must qualify in order to be eligible to freestyle. Freestyle will consist of a unrealistic mind set; but will be limited to certain parameters such as one roll save and a 30 second grace period. Classic Racing is subject to debate by those who race here. I would like to limit the signups to just using John Browns Leaf Sprung trucks as they're standalone. I realize this doesn't promote the greatest aspect of different trucks but I am more focused on the racing aspect itself for now. Is this an obtainable option? Tracks will feature MTM2 remakes, RoR favorites and hopefully for the final event a new track. For now this is the basic overview of what is coming. I am hoping once I can get a forum area created I can further discuss rules and get a signup topic started. I will point out that this league is five weeks. I am hoping that upon completion and based on others input that there will be another five week session down the road and perhaps in the fall of 2016 an entire schedule like many were accustomed to seeing many years ago. I want to have fun running this and I want to have everyone involved running in it to have fun as well. I look forward to divulging more information as time allows. In the meantime I am interested in obtaining officials and judges for freestyle. Please feel free to contact me via Private Message if you are interested in getting involved. I am greatly looking forward to being a part of this great community once again!
  17. Great information. I see there are similarities between software then in regards to multi game rooms. If you all recall any more than 5 custom trucks in MTM2 had massive fps loss due to the complex modeling used. How does not having any trucks in game effect the experience for others? I would hate to race and not be able to see my opponent. Is there any possible workaround to map in a generic low poly / vert truck? I have a PC that just hits below 4K ready at benchmark tests so I can easily load in ten trucks without taking a hit depending on the track. 3mb speed certainly limits hosting to those that live in decent areas with a solid Internet connection. How does low end connections appear to everyone else if you are hosting or in a server? I'm scared it would be very warpy and have dropped connections. It sounds like big bracket style is what needs to be used and with a server not an individual host. Kozak and Ryan is that idea of pack storing a common practice for many? I'll admit I'm not searching forums for techniques but should this / is this common knowledge in a tutorial? It would at that point become much simpler to download common items. Get the V4 pack unzip to the vehicles folder and then just put packs in the packs folder. Find appropriate common used models as required. That makes much more sense. Track making mimics what we see out on the floors of real events. I'm not entirely sold on the steep ramp multi step pyramids. A good flowing high smooth track still provides better action. The same holds true here. Custom tracks are all up to the modeler creative intuition. Some have it and some do not. Plus remember modeling tracks in blender isn't the same as using an actual track editor like Traxx. Tagging and moving verts isn't an enjoyable task. Especially for a lot of inexperienced players with little instruction / practice. Nobody will make Hotshoe or Coconutman level tracks off the start. I appreciate the insight guys. I would enjoy bringing back something for others to race in. Ill have to put up a discussion thread in the coming days to go over ideas with the community for some winter heat type events.
  18. Bingo. Lump me into that fold too. I've popped in and out of this forum since it's inception tooting my own horn only to disappear for years at a time. Then, I come back and ridicule everyone. RoR is just a platform. Look beyond what the latest physics are, the latest updates can be to enhance the experience and just enjoy the experience that is there. We had this issue on a much smaller scale with MTM2 for the years we were popular. Forget about what you can do to improve the experience as much and go with what is there. MTM2 had a few smart coders and people who could play around with the physics. Jon Brosack, METH, and Prowler had tons of tweaks to the game to make it behave like RoR in the middle 2000's. It wasn't fluid and lacked a lot of polishing so it never left the ground the way RoR did in 2010. The wish list posts were made on a monthly basis by people who had played for years (myself included) and new comers to the genre. Finally the right combination was came upon and people migrated. It was long over due and really needed. Within the now five years that RoR has been the platform of choice to "play monster trucks" on the computer it has seen countless software versions, package updates, and what appears to me anyway a revolving door of people who come in and leave due to lack of interest or patience to keep up. Before I built my new PC I had two versions installed and never could figure out why people would make awesome add ons only to have them NOT work with ALL versions of the game. Multiplayer only works with one version? Yikes. Higher detail vehicles with better physics? Well you want this version. I at this point still have no idea if running the .37 version is what everyone uses to race online. And believe me I would LIKE to race online again. It needs to be made clear on a forum topic posted at the top of this site what are the absolute basics you need to compete with others. Otherwise all you have is a very entertaining for an hour or so single player game. Also, if the content that is here on this site isn't easily transferable to a new version of software then the project of "migration" needs to be put on the back burner. There's no reason to start over from square one again every other year. I've posted that before on here somewhere before too. The product here is phenomenal. I can download a specific Grave Digger and have it handle like the one I see out on the arena floor. I just downloaded the Monster Energy Pack that has Coty and Damon's trucks in it. And I'll be damned it handles just like there's. That's spectacular and I think under appreciated. The problem is the over complication of needing to unzip and rezip into the smv4 pack in order for the download content to work. That's been LAZINESS from the beginning and one of the biggest mistakes that has been made by this community. If you want to race online, unlike MTM2 there is no "Bearfoot" that would populate the undownloaded content another person is using, just emptiness. So one must get the content in order to experience having any other person in the room with them. So, not only is the process longer because one needs to obtain all the content, but then you need to unzip and rezip it into a larger than life package? That's deplorable. The simplification of just needing to download everyone's stuff from the download section needs to happen. John Dough does it with his leafer addon packages and I can't see it taking anyone who took the time to model or reskin a vehicle the extra ten minutes to give it standalone status. What is the largest reason this community doesn't grow again? To get back on the league topics again, MTM2 ushered in the era of realism in its waning stages. Everyone clamored for a better game but it wasn't happening so we made due with what we had. Kevin Payne started that with Monster Jam Tour. Instead of the big multi game rooms converging at the end to a room of just the final four racers, he made each game room run at a different Monster Jam track in different trucks. It was hugely successful. It spawned Steve Parry to do it with custom trucks and add in budgeting for an even larger touch of "simulation". Instead of just showing up to race we were running realistically, doing intros, having intermission, side acts and then afterwards "paying the bills". But it got to big in my eyes. People were more focused on the realism then having fun. It diminished the fun factor greatly over time. Everyone wants to be in charge instead of just competing. Thankfully because of that it allowed a few senior MTM2 players to get the air underneath the wings of RoR. Otherwise we might be without any platform at all. Unfortunately the realism mantra appears to be what is more popular here. I am shocked there hasn't been a very simple multi game room (can we even do that??) show up and leave until the next week league that had limited rules in the last five years. Would people even be interested in that? I know that is what I would prefer at this point. I don't quite understand the point of needing to make even a smaller event feel "big time". My suggestion would be meeting on TeamSpeak or AIM (that still the communicator of choice?) and trying a little less restriction. No live streams, commentators, etc. Just have fun. Structure is still required but there isn't a need for everyone to "RII" before lining up. Big bracket elite events shouldn't be conducted by inexperienced individuals. Period. Been saying that now for over a decade. Finally, I'll be ballsy and put this out there. Maybe something will come from it. Maybe it won't, OK? I would do a PPRL season again if the interest was there from the community. Perhaps it would provide a decent example for others to come up with their own concepts. Unfortunately leaf sprung trucks every other week wouldn't exactly work at this point. Unless I am doing something wrong. The two packs with the vast majority of trucks are wonky and do not all work with the game (at least for me) and cause me a lot of glitching. Maybe over time this could get rectified? Would everyone be opposed to running just John Dough's trucks even though it would mean a lot of repeatable signups? I have no idea. What I do have is a lot of ideas floating around in my head as to what I would do. iRacing isn't cutting it and the winter is long... Maybe once the calendar turns we could all have a little fun together? Let me know, PM's work well FYI and if you're from the MTM2 era and friends with me on Facebook drop a line there and lets chat.
  19. I think we could easily institute a NTNT or PPRL format without causing to big a rift in the physics aspect. For instance: 12 truck bracket with qualifying for racing. You flip over at any point and your considered wrecked for the racing bracket. That encourages hard competition but adds the realism aspect of not trying to drive over your ability. Freestyle could be the same way but with more refinement. You get a 30 second grace period for one rollover and after that your done. With the ability for ridiculous saves and back flips you simply put a limit on it to one per run. It's pretty easy to determine what would mess up a truck in real life and look unrealistic. No RII calls required just stop the clock and ask the judges to call the scores in. I think having a smooth "gimmick" free system would be beneficial to all. Budgets and bookings is fun. So is trying to mimic what we see on a weekly basis with driving. We all migrated to that with MTM2 and enjoyed it a lot. I consider SPHRA and WMTCS the pinacle of leagues in all of online monster truck racing. But the ability to get 20 people together and just compete isn't a bad concept to explore either. It promotes growth and promotes creativity with builders and the online "lurkers" of this forum and whereever else to come out and run again.
  20. You mean in 7 to 8 years time nobody has ever bothered to try and run an unrealistic event? Just show up and race and do whatever? That's shocking on the league aspect. That's what made MTM2 great and would easily make what is a great thing here, even better!
  21. I feel bad it took me this long to get to review this truck. Outstanding work Jon. I love what you did with it and it handles like a dream. It's clean and simple but enough to have its own identity. I really appreciate you going out of your way to make this one for me.
  22. So bottom line for somebody who doesn't come around these parts as often... is Multi Player capability still only .37?
  23. Suppose I'll make my once a year appearance racing! Or at least try too anyway... I'm excited to see that people still take the time to bring this event back year after year. Ten years is a long ass time! Name: Dave Collard AIM: DaveTheSmasher Truck: Grave Digger XXIII Freestyle Song Link: You know what song to play.... Truck Link: Stock in the V4 pack.
  24. If the date was something I could make... I'd be there in a heartbeat!
