They had eight other trucks on hand that were not there to compete in the FS1 Championship Series. Those eight trucks had their own little freestyle show where it was kind of like everybody versus Todd LeDuc (a.k.a. just a regular freestyle competition with Todd going last, they only said that because it's a shnazzy name for the freestyle champ). Todd won that little deal, then they went on with the show.

Obviously, there must be a lot of holes with this new format, because everyone seems to be confused. Including me. Maybe Monster Jam needs to explain this new format a little better at the events, if they didn't.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm not a die-hard follower  :)

The new format is rather easy to understand (at least it is for me). On the FS1 Championship Series, there are 16 trucks (8 Feld-owned, 8 independents). They start off the show with qualifying. The top 8 times from qualifying make it into the racing bracket and the bottom 8 do an obstacle course competition. For the obstacle course, each truck goes out one at a time and runs on a specially designed obstacle course utilizing the obstacles on the track (including freestyle obstacles). The fastest in the obstacle course earns 1 point towards their series total. I forgot to mention that the fastest qualifier also earns 1 point towards their series total. In racing, the top 8 bracket race (round one, semi-finals, finals), and the winner of the bracket earns 2 points towards their series total. Then, all 16 trucks perform in freestyle (90 seconds regulations with 30 bonus) and can earn a regulation score between 4 and 40 (6 judges, high/low scores get dropped and middle scores get totaled up) and then have the chance to earn 5 extra bonus points. The winner of freestyle gets 2 points towards their series total.

Right now, Dustin Brown in Monster Mutt is leading the series with 3 points because he won obstacle course and freestyle. Charlie Pauken in Grave Digger is second with 2 points for winning racing, and Chuck Werner in El Toro Loco is third with 1 point for being the fastest qualifier.

Hope this clears it up a bit.

that clears it up some, but then what about the other trucks at the show? they just sit there and wait for freestyle? If so that's a bad format, I want to see every truck compete against every other truck, the point series need to include all trucks running at feld events. Also what happened to son uva digger, can't find any videos of him at Houston.

The other eight trucks were there as extra trucks for the separate freestyle thing to make Houston a real big kick off to the championship series. The trucks that competed in the mini-freestyle competition (Metal Mulisha, Spike, Mega Bite, The Rod Ryan Show, Outlaw, After Shock, Krazy Train, Barbarian) will not be on the points series. They were just there to spice up the show and make it a bigger one. And Son-uva Digger wasn't in Houston; Ryan was in Nashville, TN this weekend.

So it doesnt really give indys a chance to win?

Just because there are 8 Feld owned trucks and 8 independently owned trucks doesn't mean that the independents don't have a chance to win. That's your assumption. Anybody has a chance on this tour as long as they run to the best of their abilities. Each truck has a chance because each truck is very capable to taking a win; there are no real slouches on this tour.

If I remember correctly Titan got 2 points for winning the quad-main, Wrecking Crew and El Toro Loco won the two heats, so they each get 1 point.

EDIT:

Monster Jam ATV Racing Heat 1 Winner – El Toro Loco: 1 point

Monster Jam ATV Racing Heat 2 Winner – Wrecking Crew: 1 point

Monster Jam ATV Racing Main Event Winner – Titan: 2 points

This means anybody can get in, at least with the quad racing, because Titan broke in racing, and still had a chance to earn points.

This is where is gets confusing for me, because on the results page, those points aren't counted towards the total. I'll have to ask around and see what's up with that.

So I'm gonna write about my Columbus experience here, Because there are some issues I want to talk about from that show

First off I'd like to say the show in whole was a great There were some great wheelies, Zimmer and Mcdonald had amazing freestyles.

But now to the issues at hand. First off in the wheelie competition, you could see that it was either fan scoring, or feld was just being dumb. Dalmation had the worst wheelie attempts..Yeah the worst. and somehow she won with a 25, when Digger stood vertical on 3-4 attempts, and scored a 10-10- and a freakin 4? Marc got something like 10-8-6 he had better wheelies than candice did, Zane rettew had better wheelies and got a 23. It was outrageous.

Moving onto the donut comp. THE DIRT WAS WAY TOO TACKY!!!! Everytime someone tried to spin a donut they'd hook and either 1: Stop (Most of the field did that) 2: Roll it (El Toro did that) or 3: Make a cool save (Digger) which ultimitly got digger the win. ONE GUY GOT A DONUT STARTED!!!! Zane Rettew. AND THEY SCORED HIM A 14!!! My head was in my hands at this point.

Now onto freestyle. Normally I'd blame the track for this kind of thing. But when I saw Rettews run, Balhans run, Marcs run, and Zimmers run, I thought, were the rest of drivers even trying? Really the other 4 drivers competing literally came out and rolled over everything. This part of the rant however I'm gonna leave instigator out because I understand if he took it easy for the equipment to hold up for the next show, or shows after that. but the rest of the feld drivers I was ashamed of what they did.

I understand the track is something new. Drivers, and people at feld motorsports watching these events are still taking notes on how to improve, I respect that. But there are notes to be taken from this event and I hope they see it in this sort of light.

I also want to mention the crowd was rather small compared to prior nationwide arena events.

One last thing, Greg Whitacre is a great National Anthem singer. Just saying.

I have to agree with you. In my opinion, Zimmer should have won the wheelies. I wanted to boo the judge that scored him a 4. Zane Rettew or Marc McDonald should have won the donut copetition. And I wanted to see McDonald take freestyle, but whatever. The judging was terrible at times, and half of the FELD trucks there weren't running as hard as I usually see them. Especially Zombie and Hotwheels, Bit of a let-down. Stinger really impressed me and I hope he makes the Young Guns. He has the equipment and talent to compete in Vegas.

Did you notice how Greg Whitacre continually said that 4x8 is 24?

Thanks man, that really helped!
