I might be mistaken, but didn't they say it was Rob Knell earlier that season? I seem to recall that they acknowledged it was him then started to do the "we don't know who it is" shtick, even though it was obviously Rob. I just remember that, during the San Antonio show on TNN that year, they showed Rob beating the roof of the truck with a baseball bat for whatever reason. (I'd link to it, but the only version I could find on YouTube starts after that segment.) He didn't keep the helmet on or any of the other nonsense that they did later on.
